Maurice Sand was the eldest of George Sand's two children. He was a gifted artist and the pupil of Delacroix. Like his mother, he developed a passion for puppets and began in the 1840s to write puppet plays which were staged at the theatre, built specifically for private performances, at their home in Nohant.
