Earth Sciences Department records 1920-1956.

This collection, consisting of the records of Harvey C. Markman, Curator of Geology at the Denver Museum of Natural History (now the Denver Museum of Nature & Science), is held in one 5 x 15.5 x 10-inch box, one 2.5 x 15.5 x 10-inch box and one pamphlet binder. The collection spans the period of time from 1920 to 1956. The first box contains nine file folders of field notes, sketches of arrow points, correspondence regarding dinosaur tracks, press releases and correspondence regarding dinosaur fossil finds and other materials. The second box contains eight file folders holding field notes on dinosaurs, bison and other fossil mammals, exhibit and storage of collections, notes on geologic history and specimen shipment records. The pamphlet binder contains Markman's 1924-5 field memo book.

Harvey C. Markman was a well-rounded naturalist who in 1919 started his career at the Colorado Museum of Natural History, the original name of Denver Museum of Nature & Science, as a handyman and served as Curator of Geology and Paleontology from 1936 until his retirement in 1954.
