The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has 104 dioramas depicting the context of many of the Museum's collections of specimens and artifacts. From around 1910, the first diorama-type displays at DMNS consisted of flat oil paintings placed behind specimens. Charles Armstrong Mantz, lawyer, polyglot and Curator of Asiatic Anthropology and Archeology at the Denver Museum of Natural History (DMNH), conducted several archeological expeditions to Asia, bringing his knowledge back to Denver. DMNH is now the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Mantz was born in Fort Collins, Colo., in 1892.
