Keith Humphries papers, 1930-1982.

The Keith Humphries papers contains the articles Humphries used in his research while writing and painting. The articles contain some written notation by Humphries. Also included are seventy-four photographs from the 1930s and 1940s of southwestern homesteads and the July 4th parade and rodeo in Silver City in 1939 and 1940. There are also photographs of his paintings.

A former civil engineer at White Sand Missile Ranges, Keith Humphries was a New Mexican author, historian and painter. Originally from Oklahoma, Humphries found his passion for history when his family lived in Toyah, Texas next to the Van Horn Wells stage station. Travelers to the area and memories of the family ranch hand fueled his desire to record history, but he wasn't able to pursue his passion until retirement.
