Executive Division: Director's subject files, 1975-1981 (5 ft.). This series contains memos, correspondence, minutes, reports, publications, newspaper clippings, and Bill analyses. The bulk of the material is from 1981. The records of this series were divided into seven groups in the Director's office. The first unit is entitled Director. It contains correspondence and budget reports sent to the director. The second category, Assitant Director, contains correspondence, memoranda, and reports to and from the Assistant Director's office. Issues concerning the entire department were dealt with by the Assistant Director. Examples include a license and fee study and meat inspection. The third group is Federal Agencies. These are the papers kept concerning federal agencies that dealt with the Department of Agriculture. State Agencies is the fourth division. This includes the papers concerning state agencies that dealt directly with the Department of Agriculture. The fifth category is the Lieutenant Governor's Office. It contains general correspondence and the minutes of subcabinet meetings. The sixth division is the Governor's Office which is entirely correspondence. The seventh category contains the most material. It is Agency Subdivisions. These records are the papers kept in the Director's files that were created by or sent to his office in relation to the agency's components. Most of the material is concerned with the operations of the various offices, units, sections, divisions and bureaus within the Department. Arranged as received, closely following the organizational structure of the Department. Executive Division: Air Pollution Control Commission records, 1980-1981 (2 ft., 1 in.). A representative of the Department of Agriculture is designated by the Director to sit on the Commission. This is done in accordance with Air Pollution Statute 348 of 1965. This series contains correspondence and meeting minutes of the Commission. Notices of Public Hearings and reports of the Commission are also included. Companies submitted reports that demonstrated that they met air quality standards. Arranged as received. Executive Division: Michigan Water Resources Commission Records, 1981 (1 ft.). The Director is automatically on this Commission. This series contains correspondence and meeting minutes of the Commission. Companies submitted reports demonstrating their need for an extension or the fact that they now met water quality standards. Arranged as received. Administrative Bureau: Administrative Officer's subject files, 1966-1981 (6 ft., 4 in.). This series contains correspondence, memoranda, newspaper clippings, publications, minutes, Legislative Bills, and reports. The Administrative Officer in the Department is in charge of the Adminstrative Bureau. This Bureau oversees the operations of the Divisions of Finance, Methods Management, Office Services, and Personnel. Though the material in this series deals primarily with matters of concern to the Administrative Bureau, it does have a fair amount of information to offer about other areas in the Department. Arranged alphabeticaly by division. Soil and Water Conservation: Soil and Water Conservation files, 1975-1978 (2 ft., 8 in.). This series contains district minutes and district annual reports. Both meetings and minutes are concerned with water and soil conservation issues at the local level. Arranged alphabetically.

The Air Pollution Control Commission was created by Public Act 348 of 1965. Initially under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Public Health, the commission was transferred to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources by Executive Order 1973-2a. The commission was empowered to promulgate rules, issue permits and issue orders for the control of air pollution. The Michigan Air Pollution Control Commission was abolished in 1991.
