Photographs taken by Fred H. Kiser (1878-1955), renowned mountain and landscape photographer of the American West, and his Kiser Photo Co. of Portland, Or., most 1901-1927. The bulk of the images are examples of Kiser's work in Montana, including Glacier National Park; Oregon, including Crater Lake National Park; and along the Columbia River Gorge and Columbia River Highway, among other places, as well as photographs of various places in Portland, Or. Other subjects include Kiser's work for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Mo. in 1904; the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Or. in 1905; landcsape photographs taken for various railroad companies, 1903-1916; and photographs of ships and shipbuilding in the Portland, Or. area, taken for the Emergency Fleet Corporation, 1918-1919. Other imprints in the collection include (but are not limited to) Kiser Bros. and the Winter Photo Co., both of Portland, Or. The collection also includes postcards and other photomechanical prints, as well as publications, made from Kiser's work and biographical material about Kiser and his brother and partner, Oscar H. Kiser, dating from 1903-1999. Includes vintage prints, copy prints made from original negatives, panoramic prints, and stereographs. Many of the photographs are hand-colored.
