Scrapbook, ca. 1942-1945, of James Wofford Kee, Jr., re his stateside military service in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, and genealogical correspondence re the family of Wolff and Mildred Kee of Chester, S.C., and the related Barber, Bates, Culp, Daniel, Drennan, Ferguson, Fleming, Jordan, Keeling, Klein, Kolb, Pardue, Price, Roseborough, Stephenson, Stevenson, Stinson, and Williams families. Includes photographs, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous items, extensive genealogical information, and family letters; correspondence from Kathleen S. Brown, S. Janice Kee, George Irwin, Annie L. Ratliff, and Joan H. Ross to James Wofford Kee, Jr., and his wife, Lorelle B. Kee. Includes 3 letters, 1939, written to Lorelle B. Kee in S.C., from a pen pal, Clare Vassart in Belgium, expressing desparation with onset of war (1 Apr. 1939, 17 Oct. 1939, and [6] Dec. 1939), "The war, this terrible thing exists. When I think, I can't sleep ... please pray for us." Scrapbook printed with title, "United States Army Air Forces / Service Memories," ca. 1942-1945, (folder 66-A) compiled by James Wofford Kee, Jr., who served in the 611th Army Air Force Base Unit (AAFBU), with photos, several diary entries, list of 10 locations around U.S. where Kee was stationed, addresses, satirical poem about dusty, arid conditions in Roswell, N.M; and memorabilia and ephemera from his military service (enlisted man's temporary pass, tobacco ration card, bunk tag, Sunday programs from protestant services on base, and his honorable discharge, 20 December 1945). [folder 66a]. Unbound items removed from scrapbook include "Affidavit of Dependency" form, 1940s, re disability suffered by Kee's parents on their farm, noting his mother's high blood pressure and his father's "pernicious anemia" and partial paralysis [folder 67]. Visual materials in Box 2 include various photographic portraits, ca. 1890s-1910s and ca. 1942; (see Folder 70 for list of studios and portraits); persons pictured include members of the Blain, Boen, Bond, Gardner, Kee, Millhouse, Price, Salley, Stevenson, and other family members. Studios represented include establishments in Columbia, Johnston, Newberry, Orangeburg, S.C. and Savannah, Ga. Also includes postcards (folder 68) of Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company (Rock Hill, S.C.) [ca. 1960s?] and Spartanburg Methodist College [ca. 1990s?].
