Louis St. Denis division of property agreement, 1758 Mar. 8.

This agreement divides the lands from the succession of Louis St. Denis in Natchitoches Parish, La. It describes the locations of two areas of land (27 and 11 arpents) belonging to his widow and children, some of which was retained in common for their livestock. The boundaries are delineated by the names of adjacent property holders: Jean Baptiste Boulet, Joseph Leduc, Rev. Fr. Valentin, Gaspard Barbier, the widow Duplessis, the Derbonne family, and the Brossard portage. The document is signed by his widow Manuela (signed "Emanuel"), his two sons, Marie de Sotaux, Marie de Blanc, and two witnesses. It also mentions his two daughters, Marie des Neiges and Marie des Douleurs.

Louis Juchereau de St. Denis was a Canadian-born French adventurer who established the French post at Natchitoches in 1714 and began contraband trade with the nearby Spanish colonists in Texas. After being detained by Spanish officials in New Spain in 1714-1715 for conducting illicit trade, he was appointed commissary officer of the Ramón expedition, charged with founding six Spanish missions and a presidio in East Texas during the years 1716-1717.
