The Ninety-Fourth Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered into service in the summer of 1862 entirely from McLean County, Ill. Its first commander was Col. William W. Orme, later succeeded by John McNulta. Next in rank was Lt. Col. Rankin Laughlin. Born 21 Aug. 1834 in Randolph Township, McLean County, Ill., in 1850 he attended Wesleyan University in Bloomington, as a member of the first class. He completed his education in 1854.
