McClure, Houghton Mifflin Company, and an unidentified proof reader, Whitney requests books, discusses publication issues including copyright and Sampson Low's repudiation of an agreement, corrects mistakes in proofs and verifies the accuracy of a text. James R. Osgood was a native of Maine who went to work for the publishing house of Ticknor and Fields. He eventually founded the subsidiary group James R.
