Gamma Phi Beta Sorority Records, 1929-1993.

The records consists of secretary's notes from the House Corporation Board Meetings, 1964-1993, and by-laws; correspondence files of letters sent to alumni, members and parents, as well as responses; and publications of the Double Brown, published by the NDSU Gamma Phi Betas, installation memorabilia, and rushing and student conduct rules. Included also is the scrapbook which was the petition to the National Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, along with two trophies won by the sorority in 1940 and 1941. In addition, the records include newspaper and magazine clippings, along with board duties and house regulations. There is also a file reserved for planning/agenda. A listing of members initiated from 1930-1984 is included and a financial file that deals with some house records and expenses. Finally, there is a photo of a model of a house.

Gamma Phi Beta sorority started as Sigma Theta sorority in 1908 at Fargo College. When Fargo College closed in 1922, two graduates from the sorority enrolled at North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) and transferred the organization there. The group grew, and within 21 years had initiated 155 girls into sisterhood. In 1929 they petitioned for membership to the Gamma Phi Beta national sorority.
