Thomas E. Tutt was president of the Third National Bank in St. Louis, Missouri. Andrew J. Smith was born around 1838, probably in Rochester, New York. In December 1873 he was appointed surveyor general of Montana and served until his removal in September 1877. In January 1878 he bought a sheep ranch in the Smith River Valley.
