The pioneer woman's life : a separate reality : a comparative study of diaries / by Judy Lensink. 1977.

Author's paper prepared for a history class which compares 3 women's diaries with 3 men's diaries. The diaries were all written between 1852 and 1896 by rural Iowans. The author observes that the women's diaries carefully record men's farm duties but the men's diaries have little to say regarding women's chores. The diaries are records of farm life, crops and finances. Lensink analyzes diaries by Emily Hawley Gillespie (1862-1863), Mary Hooper (1873), Ella Hancock (1864), Ellery Hancock (1864), Benjamin Gue (1852-1856) and Corwin R. Snow (1892-1896).
