Dr. Ivan S. Gilbert Trade Catalog and Ephemera collection, ca. 1860-1970. ca. 1860-1970.

Approximately 10,000 trade catalogs stored in 147 boxes. The library received the collection in two separate shipments of 64 boxes and 83 boxes respectively (2006). The catalogs are arranged by subject heading in accordance with the Lawrence B. Romaine's A Guide to American Trade Catalogs 1744-1900. Collection consists of American catalogs from a variety of trades, among them advertising, agriculture, appliances, architecture, automotive, clothing, electrical supply, firearms, gardening, general merchandise, hardware, industrial equipment, lab equipment, medical supply, pharmaceuticals, taxidermy, and tools. Dr. Gilbert purchased the collection from Kenneth Schneringer. The library is working on a finding aid.
