Israel Grosvenor horse theft documents, 1793-1794.

The collection consists of original legal documents from a court case brought against Israel Grosvenor of Weathersfield, Vermont in 1793-1794. Grosvenor stood accused of "feloniously" and "with force and arms" stealing a sorrel mare from George Clark of Windsor, Connecticut. He was indicted when the grand jurors of Windsor County, Vermont returned a true bill for the crime of horse theft. Israel Grosvenor was born in Pomfret, Connecticut in 1772 and died on March 18, 1842 in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. In 1792, he married Eunice Jones in Poultney, Vermont. He was prosecuted for horse theft in Windsor County, Vermont in 1793 and 1794. According to his obituary in the People's Monitor and Warren Democrat on March 29, 1842, he lived in Warren, Pennsylvania for about 20 years, had a large family, and a reputation as a thief.
