Cobb family papers, 1872, 1894-1904.

The bulk of the collection consists of letters written to Mary Louise Cobb from Charles E Mayo, St Paul, Minnesota and from Josiah Paine, Harwich. These letters are obviously in response to inquiries from Mary Louise and relate to local and family history. All the letters have been transcribed by Walter E. Babbitt. Charles E Mayo compiled and edited the book, Mortuary Record From the Gravestones in the Old Burial Ground in Brewster, Massachusetts. Josiah Paine is the author of A History of Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, 1620 - 1800 and The History of the Town of Brewster. There is one letter addressed to Emily C. Cobb from Freeman. The letter is written in Graham's Town, South Africa and includes graphic descriptions of Boer living conditions.
