The collection contains Updike's typescript letter, 31 December [1979], to Ms. Barrett, Doubleday editor, returning an edited copy of the galley for his essay, "Going Barefoot," for the book, On the Vineyard, complaining about the short turnaround time, type size, and the "gushy" biographical note; the edited galley, with pencil corrections and emendations by Updike, of "Going Barefoot" (1 page); and the original typescript of the essay with Updike's corrections in ink and pencil.
