Religion des Indiens et leur Christianisme, [1715?].

Manuscript which begins with a thorough description of the religion, customs, dress, and rites of the Indians of the Coromandel Coast in India, and then proceeds to discuss the Christian missions in that region and in China. The text criticizes the Jesuit missions, and especially the Malabar and Chinese rites, for incorporating pagan or Confucian elements; it also criticizes the Compagnie des Indes. This manuscript is evidently a copy of the original text, with words that were illegible in the original left blank. Bound in calf with elaborately gilt spine, contrasting spine label, and marbled endpapers. Title taken from spine label.

1 v. ([280] p.) ; 23 cm.
