Andrew T. Kopan Collection, 1940-2006.

Series one contains personal papers, correspondence, and research files. Included are documents related to Kopan's family history, his teaching files, scholarly papers and articles, speeches and presentations, drafts and periodical articles. This series also includes correspondence, such as personal letters and letters regarding events, organizations, and issues that he was involved with. Series two contains papers that Kopan collected because of his involvement with the organization or institution he served or because the materials related to his research interests. The types of materials Kopan collected include mailings from organizations, brochures and flyers, meeting minutes, conference publications and ephemera, articles and newspaper clippings, and parish bulletins and church service programs.

Andrew T. Kopan was born in 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to Greek-American parents. He received his bachelor's degree in history from DePaul University, and master's degree in history from Northwestern University. He began teaching at DePaul University while attending the University of Chicago's doctoral program. He received the his doctorate in 1974. He retired from the University in 1994. Kopan was one of the founders of the Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) during the 1940's, and he remaine...
