The Studebaker Corporation began making automobiles in 1902. It merged with the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit in the 1950s. The competition from the "Big Three" auto manufacturers was too great for the Company to stay in business. It left South Bend in 1963, and produced its last car the same year in Hamilton, Ontario.
