Chiefly comprise typewritten manuscripts of his books, most with holograph revisions, some accompanied by multiple drafts, galley and page proofs, and illustrations. Correspondence includes exchanges with the University of Michigan Library concerning the donation of his papers, and with staff members of the Hopwood Room regarding his activities and publications. Ana folder contains photocopies of printed material: interviews, reviews, and an article by Courlander about his lawsuit against Alex Haley. Author of Roots (Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, 1976.).
