Valentine cards, ca.1800-ca.1930.

Under the heading Valentines, the Grossman collection files those cards which carry typical Valentine images, such as hearts and cupids. Some Valentines are also filed with general greeting cards because the images are not of the typical "Valentine" type. Some fans and some of the silk-fringed cards bear Valentine greetings. The collection also includes a few three-dimensional cards which are in their original boxes. Also in the collection are dealer's catalogs of Valentines, the dated ones being from 1882, 1883, 1899, and 1910. Valentine images may also be found on cigar box labels, but these are not considered greeting cards.
