Dean family papers, 1820-1852.

The Dean family, believed to be descended from seventeenth century Englis emigrees, established deep roots in Oneida County, New York, in such towns as Westmoreland, Louisville, Panama, Harmony, and Lairdsville. The family papers are comprised predominantly of correspondence between members of the Dean family of central and western New York between 1820-1852, including sisters Eliza Dean and Sarah Peck; Ira Peck; Eveline and Truman Lewis; Luke Dean; Alexander Dean; and Cornelia Brooks Dean. Also extant are undated recipes for making dyes, cakes, and "a cure for salt rheum." An index to the correspondence is included, arranged alphabetically, which summarizes the contents of the letters.
