George M. Ottinger papers. 1874-1912.

Collection consists of an artist notebook and art journal, scrapbook, along with various loose papers. Ottinger's art journal is full of hand written instructions on colors he mixed to achieve multiple shades used for many of his paintings. Approximately half of the scrapbook is empty and contains magazine articles Ottinger wrote for The Juvenile Instructor, the Latter-day Saint Church's youth magazine, entitled "America," which are glued into the scrapbook. These articles were researched and put together by Ottinger in order to prove that the Book of Mormon was historically correct. The dates of the articles range from November 28, 1874 to January 23, 1876 and were originally published in volumes 9-11, 14, and 16. Some of the articles have handwritten notes and commentary added by Ottinger.
