Agricultural research project comparing use of various fertilizers on cultivation of corn and cotton at three farms in vicinity of Columbia, Darlington and Spartanburg, S.C.; the 1891 issue of the S.C. Experiment Station's Annual Report, announced (p.3) that following the establishment of an Agricultural Experiment Station at Clemson College (1 Nov. 1890), the Experimental Stations at Columbia, Darlington and Spartanburg were abolished. Log book entries record varieties of seed planted; rate of growth and volume of crops harvested following applications of marl, manure, compost, phosphate, etc.; impact of on corn yield when cultivated with peas and oats; and data from at least one site that also cultivated wheat. Results of this research published (1888-1890) in the Bulletin of the University of South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station.
