James Burney diary [manuscript], 1778 Mar. 8 - July 24.

Diary from a voyage (with Captain Cook?) along the Northwest Coast from Nootka Sound to Oonalaska. Also includes occasional technical information, such as longitude and latitute measurements, direction of wind, etc., but does not seem to be the official ship's log for this voyage.

James Burney was second Lieutenant with the Adventure, which accompanied the Resolution during Cook's second voyage, 1772-1775. He took command of the Discovery following Cook's death on the third voyage. He became a well known naval writer and had achieved the rank of Rear-Admiral before his death in 1821.
