Henry Chauncey Riley papers, 1874-1883.

Most of the material concerning Riley is found in the repository' papers of the Mexican Commission of the House of Bishops, plus the correspondence of several bishops about him, notably Horatio Potter and A. Cleveland Coxe, and in printed items, such as a pamphlet by the Reverend A. Lendrum to the Primus of Scotland attacking Riley and the affairs of his diocese, London, 1880; a pamphlet history of the liturgy of the Church of Jesus in Mexico; and other printed leaflets and reports. These concern his activities in Mexico and efforts for the union of the Church of Jesus with the Episcopal Church, his character and abilities, and his consecration as Bishop, 1879. There is only one letter by Riley, of 1876 (a copy made by Bishop Whittingham) about dangers threatening the Church in Mexico, urgent need for aid, and affairs of the Mexican Commission.

ca. 80 items.
