Since 1994, the Office of Research and Assessment conducts research focused on the opinions and behaviors of Penn State students. Undergraduates are employed to carry out Penn State Pulse phone and Web surveys of a large representative sample of the student body to collect data on student satisfaction. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer." The PHC funded projects in eight locations throughout the Commonwealth to gain appreciation, understanding, and recognition for past and present Pennsylvania writers.
