Methodist Episcopal minister and chaplain with the 7th Ohio Regt. during World War I. Papers consist of an appointment, correspondence, a diary, lists, newsclippings and writings, notes on gas defense school, orders, and miscellaneous papers. Papers document Martin's military duties; his establishment of a social center at Camp Sheridan, Alabama, for members of the 7th Ohio Regt.; and his advocacy of the abolition of religious deferments from the draft, which earned him the nickname of the "fighting parson."
