Irmgard and Helmuth Hormann memorabilia of student years, 1927-1944 1927-1937.

The Memorabilia Collection contains two scrapbooks. One documents Helmuth's drama roles at the University of Hawaii and community theater in Honolulu. The other documents Irmgard's experiences at UH. A separate box of photographs cover various activities Irmgard participated in, including the Asilomar Conference, Institute of Pacific Relations Youth Conference, a trip to Maui with a group of student friends, and graduation. Several copies of Hawaii Quill, which Irmgard edited for a year (two issues) also are in the collection. Finally the collection contains a photograph of the wedding party of Katsuso Miho (one of the group of student friends who traveled to Maui) and Alice Dame at Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu in 1944 and a photocopy of an article about the wedding from The Friend.

Helmuth Hörmann, the second child of Rev. Arthur and Maria Hormann, was born 1909. As a child, he came with his parents and older brother, Bernhard, to Honolulu, when Rev. Hormann became pastor of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu in 1916. Helmuth began studies at University of Hawaii in 1925, graduating in 1929. In 1932, he enrolled in the Max Reinhardt School of Theatre in Berlin, but returned to Hawaii when the Nazis came to power in 1933. He re-entered UH, receiving an M.A. in 19...
