Lewis Lloyd's correspondence files are organized into two types - general and NEC Community. The general correspondence spans the years 1989-1991 and includes materials such as Lloyd's correspondence as a board member of the Boston Ballet, correspondence relating to NEC's membership in outside organizations, and correspondence pertaining to NEC's insurance coverage. The NEC Community folder contains memoranda from Lloyd to the NEC Community, primarily involving the status of individual employees. There is one particularly interesting memo concerning support of the Gulf War. There is a small faculty file which contains general correspondence with individual faculty members. The primary topics are contractual issues and the faculty travel policy. The other two folders in this category deal with tax and visa issues regarding international faculty members. Lloyd's collection contains several administrative department files. The Admissions Office file contains information on student recruiting, ID policies, and College Work Study. In the Board of Trustees folder there are materials pertaining to operating budgets, capital campaign, NEC investments, and student recruiting. Building Operations records involve capital purchases, facilities, and security issues. Among the Business Office files are records concerning operating budgets, NEC's endowment, the Plant Fund, and payment voucher policies. The Concert Halls file deals with NEC insurance policies and ticket purchasing questions. The Finance and Administration records contain information about the department's organization, the annual fund, handling of investments, and dealings with Kidder & Peabody Inc., Bank of Boston, and the Common Fund. Records relating to the College Work study program and NEC's use of federal funds can be found in the Financial Aid folder. Topics covered in the Human Resources file include the formation of the Human Resources office, employment practices, the NEC health plan, short term disability, and the TIAA-CREF retirement plan. Records contained in the Information Technology folder deal with the current systems and possible upgrades. The Provost's office file contains memoranda between Lloyd and then Provost, Peter Row. This file primarily contains faculty salary and budgetary materials. The President's Office file contains memoranda between Lloyd and President Laurence Lesser, mainly concerning budgetary and investment matters. Finally, subjects covered in the Preparatory/Extension Division folder are budgetary matters, event fundraising, and a Youth Philharmonic tour. The two funding files contain information on gifts/scholarships and grants /loans. The gifts/scholarships folder documents several donations during Lloyd's tenure - major donations discussed in this folder include the Piatigorsky Fund, the Richardson Fund, and the Charlotte Rabb Fund. The majority of the grants/loans folder focuses on funding from Mass HEFA(Health and Education Facilities Authority). There is also a small amount of material pertaining to grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Three folders make up the curriculum records series. One documents the joint degree program between NEC and Tufts University, while the second deals with the joint opera program between NEC and Boston Conservatory. The third folder records preliminary discussions between NEC and the Thelonious Monk Institute about a future residency program. Lloyd's papers contain records of five NEC Committees. The Benefits Committee, which existed during the early stages of the HR department, focused on benefits for NEC employees (See also HR file). The Division Heads folder contains meeting minutes, and materials concerning budgets, technology, human resources, and alcohol/drug policies. The Facilities Committee records document the history of the financing for the acquisition and improvements on the 295 Huntington Ave building (see also the 295 Huntington subject file) as well as the Plant Fund budget. The Finance Committee file contains records of both the Finance Committee and the Special Committee on Financing. Topics addressed include operating budgets, the capital campaign, the HEFA loan, and long range planning. Finally, the Investment Committee file includes minutes, as well as records relating to NEC properties, the endowment and investments. There is only one folder in Lloyd's collection devoted to special events. This folder contains a small amount of information about the hiring of a special events consultant, festival auditions held at NEC, the NEC Chorus tour to Taiwan, the Michael Tippett visit, and the Tribute to Jordan Hall. Lloyd's papers include subject files on a variety of topics. The Firestone collection records contain correspondence regarding the Voice of Firestone collection of kinescopes and negotiations with Video Artists International regarding the repackaging and commercial release of the broadcasts on VHS. The folder labeled Instruments includes information pertaining to NEC's instrument collections, instrument donations, and maintenance as well as policies governing use of instruments. Contained in the Jordan Hall file are materials pertaining to the planning stages of the Jordan Hall restoration, including dealings with the architectural firm Ann Beha. The Schuller Recordings folder concerns the negotiations between GM (Gun Mar Recordings, Gunther Schuller, President) and NEC for rights to release commercial recordings of the performances originally licensed under the Golden Crest label, as well as an NEC recording of a performance of Alban Berg's Chamber Concerto. The other folder pertaining to recordings concerns NEC's recording policies. The Eleanor Steber collection folder addresses the debate over which institution should house a memorabilia collection from Steber's estate. There are two subject folders devoted to NEC properties- one pertaining to the 241 St. Botolph building and the use of that space; the other deals with the 295 Huntington building in terms of expenses, income, leases, and financing issues.
