Autograph letter signed : the Hague, to Pierre Maupertuis, 1751 Dec. 10.

Attempting to placate Maupertuis, apologizing for the offense caused by his paper in Acta Eruditorum. Stating that he incorporated into the paper an extract from a Leibniz letter only to note in passing that he had "probably formed a more developed theory of action, of which we were deprived by the fault of his opponents." Reminding Maupertuis that he had sent a copy of the paper to him prior to publication and would have been happy to modify or suppress it entirely, if he had so requested. Authorizing Maupertuis to publish this letter.
