These materials consist of first editions, first reissued editions, limited editions, a first trade edition, and uncorrected proof copies of Robert Olen Butler's novels and short stories, published from 1980-2004, and are signed or inscribed by Butler. The collection includes his Pulitzer Prize-winning short story anthology, A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain. There is also a letter from Simon and Schuster about his novel The Deuce, and a brochure from Cloud Books, which provides further information about these writings. American writer Robert Olen Butler was born January 20, 1945 in the small steel-mill town of Granite City, Illinois. Planning to major in theatre, Butler enrolled at Northwestern University in 1963. He graduated with a B.S. (Summa Cum Laude) in June 1967 and attended graduate school at the University of Iowa, where he received an M.F.A. in playwriting in 1969.
