Frederic Dan Huntington papers, 1861-1890.

Some Civil War correspondence concerns the Unionist stand of Bishop William Rollinson Whittingham in Maryland and the work of Mrs. Adeline Blanchard Tyler. Other papers are about affairs of the Diocese of Central New York, Huntington's visits to Maryland, his opposition to the consecration of George F. Seymour as Bishop of Springfield, and his theological views. One pastoral letter to his diocese, 1890, is also included.

William Rollinson Whittingham was born in New York City, N.Y., and graduated from the General Theological Seminary in 1825. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1829 and became rector of Saint Mark's Church in Orange, N.J.
