Records of the James Jackson Cabot Professorship, 1935-1975.

The collection includes papers of the civilian pilot training program, 1938-1942. Also included are the records of Lt. Col. Philip Hopkins who joined the faculty in 1952 as head of the department of aviation administration. Hopkins was active in soliciting lecturers to address aviation classes and in promoting the summer aviation education workshops. His records reflect his interests and activities. On 17 August 1935, the James Jackson Cabot professorship of air traffic regulations and air transportation was established at Norwich University thanks to the support of trustee Godfrey L. Cabot. The professorship was named in memory of Godfrey Cabot's son, James Jackson Cabot, an officer in the U.S. Flying Service during World War I.
