Jane Teasley Thornton Family Papers, 1859-1889.

The collection consists of Teasley/Thornton/Herndon genealogy, photographs, financial statements, and letters. All of the letters appear to be addressed to Jane Teasley, and most are from soldiers serving in the Civil War. These soldiers include Jane's uncle James J. Norman (15th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company I), her future husband, James William Thornton, and her cousins James W. H. Hunt and Singleton J. W. Hunt (all in 38th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company F). Both the 38th and 15th Regiments were in Virginia near the battles of Malvern Hill and Fredericksburg, but the letters give few details. There are also some letters from Jane's uncle Carter Norman in Midway, Louisiana. Also included are two receipts of J. W. Thornton and a poem/song ballad written for him.
