William Faulkner letters to Paul Romaine [manuscript], 1932.

In two undated letters [envelopes postmarked 1932 March 16 and June 2] Faulkner writes about Salmagundi" which Romaine published at his Casanova Press in Milwaukee. In the first he agrees to sign copies, noting "the damned autograph is like cotton down here: the more you make, the less it is worth....I have to live on either it or cotton, and cant make anything farming." He requests his complimentary copies and adds that "the word from Hemingway is splendid. This is the second time he has said something about me that I wish I had thought to say first" and ends that he would be glad to see Romaine in "these wilds..." In a second brief note handwritten on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer stationery he writes that he has seen the book, likes it and wants his copies sent to Oxford.
