This collection contains one oversize scrapbook titled "Mysterious Savannah Doorway". It was a project in historical research done by the history class of Harriet Marks at Herschel V. Jenkins High School in Savannah, Georgia from 1962-1963. The scrapbook itself focuses not only on the doorway, originally at 1 West Broad Street, but the process of doing historical research. It contains photographs and correspondence regarding the doorway and the creation of the scrapbook. Each page or series of pages covers a step in the process. There is an introduction, list of questions the class wanted to answer, answers to the questions, a timeline of the research the class did, a family tree and short essay on the Gibbons family, who built the house the doorway came from, newspaper clippings on Thomas Gibbons, a timeline of the doorway's building's ownership, a hand drawn map of Savannah in 1800, a large drawing of the doorway, a list of the students, adults and teachers involved in the creation of the scrapbook, and a bibliography of the sources used. Contents include two letters to Harriet Marks from James Biddle, Associate Curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's American Wing.
