Dr. Carl Clifford Howard oral history project, 1964-1985.

Howard discusses his medical education and career, his medical service in France during World War I, his colleagues (physicians and nurses), his patients, the first insulin patient in Kentucky, and diabetes. The other interviewees, including A. B. "Happy" Chandler, discuss surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, Howard's first use in Kentucky of radium and x-rays and his early use of penicillin, changes in transportation during Howard's practice, tuberculosis and tuberculosis hospitals, and malpractice suits. Other topics are Howard's role in the unsuccessful attempt to save the life of trapped caver Floyd Collins, his role in the development of several hospitals and in establishing the Rural Scholarship Fund, and his views on the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the University of Kentucky Medical School in Lexington.
