In 1959 Whitworth College entered into an agreement with the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Spokane, Washington which provided a two years liberal arts program followed by two years additional training in nursing at the hospital. Those completing the program received a B.S. degree in Nursing plus the R. N. Whitworth College was founded officially on February 19, 1890. During the years 1987 and 1988 plans were made to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
