Collection of autograph poems, 1816-1819.

Collection consists of six autograph manuscript poems (MA 213.4-6 and MA 214.3-5). Three (MA 213.5-6 and MA 214.5) are clearly working drafts, and three appear to be fair copies. Two -- The Eve of St. Mark (MA 213.6) and Cap and Bells (MA 214.5) -- are incomplete. Poems have been described individually in six catalog records; see related records for more information.

John Keats was an English poet and literary critic. John Keats, English poet, was born in London, England, on 29 or 31 Oct. 1795. He died of tuberculosis in Italy on 23 Feb. 1821. In 1810, Keats was articled to a surgeon, T. Hammond, in Edmonton for five years. The contract was broken in 1814 or 1815.
