The record consists of a microfilm copy of an unpublished paper by Dr. Schwartz collecting banking statistics for the states of Pennsylvania (1829-1863) and New York (1831-1863), along with an extended essay describing their derivation. The banking statistics are tabulated quarterly and presented in tabular form. The Pennsyvlania statistics include: number, capital stock, total assets and real estate holdings; individual deposits; circulation; short-term loans and discounts and real estate loans; investments in government and corporate stocks and bonds and long-term loans; available reserves; and notes due from banks. New York statistics include: capital, profits and total assets, total deposits, circulation, loans and investments, and reserves of Safety Fund Banks (1831-1841); monthly banking statistics during the suspension of specie payments (1837-1838); New York chartered banks, number and capital, estimates of condition, profits and total assets, total deposits, circulation, loans and investments, reserves (1831-1841); all banks in operation in New York, estimates of condition, capital, profits and total assets, total deposits, circulation, loans and investments, available reserves (1840-1863).
