Elijah Kent Hubbard papers, 1823-1836.

The collection contains letters to Elijah Kent Hubbard from his parents and friends, 1823-1833, as well as a letter from Elijah's father to President Day of Yale University, 1830. There are miscellaneous papers relating to Alden Partridge, 1826-1827, and to Middlebury College, 1831-1832, as well as assorted bills and receipts, 1828-1833. Also included are essays and speeches, 1825-1836. For a more detailed description, see the content listing in the finding aid. The control file included with the collection also contains item-level inventories and references which letters mention Alden Partridge or the American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy. Elijah K. Hubbard was born in Middletown, CT, and attended school in West Haven, CT. From May 1826 until August 1827, he attended the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy (forerunner of Norwich University), which was then located in Middletown, CT.
