Marion Perry Maus papers, 1871-1878.

Marion Maus was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army First Infantry. Papers include a statement (1871) of his military service; a brevet recommendation (1890); and excerpts from letters (1878) of Nannie D. Roberts about Maus. Collection consists of an official statement (1871), from the U.S. Office of the Adjutant General, of the military service of Maus; and typescript copies of two letters (1878) by Nannie DuVal Roberts about Lieutenant Maus.

Marion Perry Maus was born in Maryland on August 25, 1850. He attended West Point Military Academy and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the First Infantry in 1874. He served at various posts in Nebraska and Dakota Territory, including Fort Randall and Fort Sully. He later was posted to Texas and Arizona in the 1880s and California in the 1890s.
