Wesley L. Jones photograph collection [graphic], 1910-1927 bulk (1927).

The Wesley L. Jones photograph collection includes portraits of Wesley L. Jones, lantern slides of Alaska, images of the flooding of the White and Cache Rivers, in Clarendon, Arkansas, and an album with images of the Mississippi River Flood of 1927. The glass lantern slides may have been used as visual aids by Senator Jones for related presentations. Jones also collaborated with Senator Frank R. Reid from Illinois to write the Reid-Jones Bill that provided for improvements to the Mississippi River for flood control and navigation, which was signed into law in 1928 as the Flood Control Act. The album photographs, which include scenes of African Americans at tent encampments in Greenville and other parts of Mississippi, may have been used for Senate hearings in support of the bill.
