Diary 1914-1917.

Diary begun Oct. 1914 and ending May 24, 1917. It consists entirely of dinners and luncheons given by the Jennings with lists of guests plus guests/invitations declined. Included are two diagrammed seating plans and other relative seating positions of the guests. Among the dinner guests were future presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, current Vice President Marshall, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Winston Churchill, and many others. Guests included military leaders, politicians, ambassadors from around the world, at least one Olympic athlete and business leaders. Laid in are brief notes on 3 guests from South America.

Hennen Jennings was a mining engineer. He graduated from Harvard in 1877 and worked in gold and quicksilver mines in California for the next ten years. In 1887 he went to Venezuela. Two years later he moved on to South Africa, where he was a consulting engineer for the Rand mines in the Transvaal district.
