Letter concerning the name "Cracker Box" [manuscript], 1936 February 20.

Letter from Thomas Staley to "Friend John" [Cook Wyllie] recounting the history of the "Cracker Box." According to Staley, the Cracker Box had been a ruin until about 1922 when a law student named John Herbert "Pete" Johnson undertook its renovation and subsequently lived there. As Johnson was from Georgia the building was nicknamed "Cracker Box" because a Georgia "Cracker" lived in it. Staley authenticates his version of the story as his sister married Johnson and lived with him in the "Cracker Box."
