Gallatin Family papers [manuscript], 17xx, 1806-circa 1910.

Includes a folio of Gallatin genealogical material, portraits, a letter from Voltaire to a Madam Gallatin concerning a request she had made of him. Portraits of Albert Gallatin include a pencil sketch by Jervis, 1825; an engraving from a painting by Alonzo Chappel; silhouettes of Gallatin and Hannah Nicholson Gallatin, 1806; and an engraving of Gallatin from a $500 note, circa 1862-1863. The later three are accompanied by a note of provenance and explanation by Frederic Gallatin and a letter from Richard D. Cutts forwarding the silhoutettes. There is also an engraving of the Washington Monument sold to raise funds for its construction with a facsimile signature of Gallatin, among othees. The folio of Gallatin genealogical material contains clippings, extracts from several legal documents and xxxx.
