The collection contains a poem titled "The Bloodless Sportsman," undated. A letter, 1887 Sep 1, to C. N. Hood concerns the price of one of Mr. Hood's stories. A letter, 1894, to H. C. Bowen, accepts an invitation to write a poem for the Woodstock, CT Fourth of July Celebration. A letter, 1896 Sep 25, to Fred H.[sic] Hopkins at "The Review of Reviews" discusses the reasons for the unpopularity of poetry in this country and lays some of the blame on editors who only publish short poems for typographical variety in a page layout. A letter, 1907 Nov 19, to the Rev. Lucius H. Thayer explains that he must decline all invitations for public readings for health reasons.
