The papers include manuscripts of Garrett's essays and reviews; personal and professional correspondence; research notes; transcripts of interviews; manuscripts and galleys of works by other authors; news clippings; photographs; and, miscellaneous printed materials. The collection also contains disks of short stories by Garrett and his set of compact disks of Robert E. Lee and His High Command, by Gary W. Gallagher, together with a compact disk of Chopin piano pieces.

George Garrett (1929-2008) was a novelist and poet who taught at Hollins University and the University of Virginia.
